MEET CRAIG STAATS
Craig Staats is a proven public servant and community leader representing the 145th Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives since first being elected in 2014.
Staats is a U.S. Navy veteran and business leader with over three decades of experience, including 30+ years in the restaurant industry and work as a business broker facilitating growth and opportunity for entrepreneurs.
Before his election to the General Assembly, he was deeply involved in local civic life, serving as Chairman of the Richland Township Board of Supervisors, as well as on the township’s Planning Commission, Preservation Board, and Agricultural Security Area Advisory Committee. He has also served as a Judge of Elections and youth sports coach.
A graduate of Central Bucks East High School and Johnson & Wales University with a degree in business management, Staats brings a blend of private-sector insight and local government experience to his work in Harrisburg.
In the 2025-26 Legislative Session, he was appointed Republican Chair of the House Intergovernmental Affairs and Operations Committee, where he leads efforts to strengthen cooperation among state, county, and local governments and improve operational effectiveness in service delivery.
Previously, he served as Chair of the House Subcommittee on Career and Technical Education, where he spearheaded the most significant rewrite of Pennsylvania’s career and technical education law in 30 years, modernizing workforce training to better align with the needs of employers and students alike.
Throughout his tenure, Staats has built a record of steady leadership on issues that directly affect family budgets and local employers. As he looks ahead, he is focused on improving government efficiency, growing the economy, and lowering costs for hardworking families so Pennsylvania remains a place where hard work is rewarded and communities can thrive.
On the Issues

1
Lowering Everyday Costs for Hardworking Families
Craig Staats has consistently fought to keep government spending in check and prevent policies that would raise costs on families. He supported responsible state budgets that reduced spending, avoided broad-based tax increases, protected the Rainy Day Fund, and ended participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, preventing an energy tax that would have driven up electricity and heating costs for households and small businesses.
2
Fiscal Responsibility & Taxpayer Protection
Staats has built a record of disciplined fiscal stewardship, backing budgets that prioritize core services while rejecting wasteful spending and working to prevent fraud. His work has helped preserve Pennsylvania’s long-term financial stability, maintain scheduled business tax reductions, and protect taxpayers from unsustainable government growth.
3
Workforce Development & Career and Technical Education Reform
While Chair of the House Subcommittee on Career and Technical Education, Staats led the most significant rewrite of Pennsylvania’s career and technical education law in 30 years. These reforms modernized workforce training, strengthened partnerships with employers, and expanded pathways for students to enter high-demand, good-paying careers without taking on excessive debt.
4
Efficient, Accountable Government
As Chair of the House Intergovernmental Affairs and Operations Committee, Staats has focused on improving coordination between state, county, and local governments to deliver services more effectively. His leadership emphasizes reducing bureaucracy, increasing transparency, and ensuring taxpayer dollars are used efficiently.
5
Economic Growth & Support for Small Businesses
Drawing on decades of private-sector experience, Staats has advanced policies that encourage investment, streamline permitting, and create a more competitive environment for job creators. His work helps small businesses grow, hire, and contribute to strong local economies.
6
Community Investment & Local Priorities
Staats has worked to secure funding for infrastructure, public safety, and community projects that improve quality of life across the district. He remains focused on ensuring local communities receive their fair share of state resources while maintaining local control and accountability.
